  • FAGUS March Lecture

    FAGUS March Lecture

    FAGUS is a thriving Nailsea based gardening group attracting keen gardeners with informative lectures, day trips and discounts. This March, Åsa Gregers-Warg and David Ward will be coming to Nailsea Methodist Church to give a talk entitled ‘The Beth Chatto Gardens – Past, Present and Future’. Åsa is the Head Gardener at The Beth Chatto Gardens, with many years’ experience working closely with Beth to perfect her garden’s philosophy and design principles. David is the Garden and Nursery Director at The Beth Chatto Gardens, where he has worked for over thirty-five years tending the various gardens. The talk will begin at 8pm (doors open 7.30pm) and will last approximately one hour with audience questions following. Members £2, visitors £4.

    Nailsea Concert Orchestra’s next concert will be on Saturday 14th March at St Francis of Assisi Church, when they will be performing Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, Greig’s Peer Gynt Suite and the Phillip Glass Facades. Concert 7.30pm with pre-concert talk at 6.45pm. Tickets on the door or from Nailsea Music Shop, £12 adults, £10 concessions, £2.50 under 18s. This concert will be supporting Ravenwood School’s new school hall project.

    Nailsea Horticultural Society March Meeting

    On Wednesday 11 March, Nailsea Horticultural Society will look forward to warmer spring days and local horticulturalist Don Everitt coming to give an informative illustrated talk on spring colour from bulbs. The meeting will be held in Nailsea United Reformed Church Hall, commencing at 7.30pm. The admission fee of £2 for members and £3 for non-members includes refreshments. All will be made very welcome.

    Don’t forget the Society’s Spring Show will be on Saturday 4th April! Schedules and information about classes are available from Nailsea Library, John Brown and PS travel.

    Woodspring U3A February Speaker

    On Tuesday 25th February at 2.15pm, the Woodspring U3A will hold their monthly meeting at the Methodist Church, Silver Street, Nailsea.

    The speaker at the meeting will be Terry Merrett-Smith and his topic is “Anything Goes”. It will be an exploration of Cole Porter through music, speech and visuals. Non-members are welcome for £1. Hot drinks are available before the talk, bring your own mug.

    FAGUS February AGM & Penicillin Fungus

    On 17th February there will be the FAGUS AGM followed by a talk entitled ‘The Penicillin Fungus’ given by Drummond Forbes. Trained as a Pharmacist at The School of Pharmacy, Drummond went on to have an extensive career in pharmaceuticals, even becoming General Manager of Bristol Eye Hospital and, afterwards, managed Bristol Royal Infirmary. Due to his dedication and contribution to the profession of science and pharmacy, Drummond received a Fellowship from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

    The AGM and talk will take place at Nailsea Methodist Church Hall from 8pm (doors open 7.30pm). Members £2, visitors £4.

  • Lions Brass4Youth/Wellspring Counselling Charity Concert

    Want to blow away the January Blues? Come along to Backwell School on Friday 31st January at 7pm and enjoy an evening of music featuring the Lions Brass4Youth while raising funds for Wellspring Counselling to help provide affordable Adult Counselling and CBT for Young People in your local community. Wellspring Counselling offers professional sessions for those facing loss, stress and anxiety, depression, and a variety of other difficulties in and around Nailsea, Backwell, Clevedon, and Portishead.   • Williams Syndrome Foundation Fundraiser

    Two local bands from North Somerset are holding a musical event on 8th February to raise money and awareness for the Williams Syndrome Foundation which supports people with the syndrome and their families/loved ones.

    Williams Syndrome is a rare and randomly occurring genetic disorder which affects around 1 in 18,000 people. It causes physical, cardiac and mental health problems, sensory, behavioural, social and processing issues and learning disabilities. Lack of awareness often leads to lack of infant diagnosis.

    The event invites local residents to enjoy a fun-filled evening, including a raffle with prizes donated by the Ring o’Bells – the venue. With help from supporters, Raising Cain and Corvus are hoping to raise £100s through the evening.
